During his first year of high school Cuauhtémoc qualified for the varsity team by swimming the fastest time of any other freshmen on the team. Over the course of his first season he advanced to the regional finals in the 200 Freestyle relay where he ended the season with a 6th place finish.
During his sophomore year of high school Cuauhtémoc continued to swim on the varsity team, maintaining his position as one of the fastest sophomore freestyle swimmers in the program. In his second season, he once again advanced to the regional finals in the 200 Freestyle relay, this time narrowly missing a trip to the state meet with a 4th place finish.
Junior year was Cuauhtémoc's third year on varsity swim. He ended his season with a PR time in the 50 free of 23.93. He qualified for Regional Championship Finals in all of his events. He finished finals with 3rd place in the 200 Free Relay, 5th in 200 Medley Relay, 12th place in 50 Free and 14th place in 100 Breast.
